Meet and Greet/Open House/Pet Food Drive
benefiting AniMeals on Wheels
The Golden Rule
GBGRR's friends and supporters rallied to help Interfaith Ministries' AniMeals program at an Open House, Meet and Greet, Pet Food Drive event on August 16, 2008. Over 100 guests enjoyed lunch and visiting with some of our Goldens. Eight dogs found their forever homes and we collected 1,500 pounds of pet food and over $1200.00 in donations for the AniMeals program, which delivers pet food to seniors in the Meals on Wheels program. Without this service, many would be unable to keep their beloved companion animals. A wonderful day was had by all, especially our Goldens. Thanks to everyone who made this amazing day possible, including Bethany and Chat Lenhart and Suez Energy.

Our Featured Rescue
Who is the Golden Beginnings Blogger? In addition to their weekly pet features, the Houston Chronicle has added a "Pets Houston" page to www.chron.com with a section called "To the Rescue." Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue was asked to contribute to this online rescue blog. This new feature went live last month, and our own Robin Miller, adoption team member, foster, volunteer, and, fortunately for us, writer, blogs regularly about Golden rescue issues, responsible pet ownership and GB happenings, giving us another means to educate people about the importance of our mission.

Summer Reading
GBGRR's favorite mystery author and supporter David Rosenfelt, has a new book coming out: Don't Tell a Soul, release date June 24, 2008. Although not a part of his Andy Carpenter series, which features the hero's rescued Golden Retriever, Tara, this new work does have a Golden Beginnings connection. Last June, when David visited Houston for our benefit event celebrating the release of Play Dead, there was a live auction for naming rights: Kris Brown was the winning bidder, and as a result, his and Joanie Patrick's Golden, Travis, will figure as a character in the new book. Readers will meet other familiar characters; "Detective" Joanie Patrick, police lieutenant, and "Dr." Robin Miller, forensic scientist, appear as David Rosenfelt's nod to GB! And for fans of Rosenfelt's alter ego, Andy Carpenter and his Golden, Tara, the latest in the series, New Tricks, will be published later this year, when we hope to announce David Rosenfelt's next visit.
David and his wife formed the Tara Foundation, which rescued thousands of dogs (mostly Goldens) in need, and now take in those to old or sick to be adopted. They currently share their home with over 30 such dogs. Watch our site for news of his next visit to Houston.
David's works are available at Murder by the Book, www.murderbooks.com, 2342 Bissonnet, Houston, 77005. See also: www.DavidRosenfelt.com.

Save a Life - Foster a Golden!!
Would you like to help a Golden in Need by Fostering? GBGRR needs caring, patient and responsible Golden lovers to join our foster home team by opening their homes and hearts to our Rescue Goldens. A key component to our Rescue program is the foster home. The principal behind fostering is to provide the dogs entrusted to our care with a home environment to expedite their mental and/or physical rehabilitation and to evaluate their habits and behavior. This allows GBGRR to place each Rescue with the new family and improve the chances of lifelong enjoyment of the day and the new family.

If you would like to open your heart and home to a Golden in need or have additional questions about fostering, please give us a cal at (281) 480-4942 or email us.
