Harley's owners moved off and left him in the garage where he was found by a Good Samaritan. Harley is approximately 10-12 years old. This sweet boy was severely infested with fleas and was missing quite a bit of his golden fur from flea dermatitis. Harley also has severely infected ears and could stand to gain a few pounds. Harley is a love and is your typical velcro golden. He is current on vaccinations and neutered. He is heartworm positive and will begin treatment shortly.

Watch for more to come on Harley as he improves.

Foster Update 3/17/08:

Just wanted to send ya'll a couple of photos of Harley, the sweetest old boy ever.  Harley is an old guy and is missing his teeth in the front.  When he gets to sleeping hard and is really relaxed his tongue hangs out of his mouth.  It cracks us up every night because he looks so silly.

I just recently took over Harley's foster care - his original foster mom was Dawn J. Her daughter rescued him from the garage and Dawn and our good Vets out in Spring got him started on the road to recovery.  He is doing well for an old guy and we really love him (even if we do laugh at him when he is asleep)  After sleeping on a hard garage floor he REALLY, REALLY likes a nice soft bed to sleep on and has staked his claim to this one in the living room.  He certainly deserves to have a soft bed and good care for the rest of his life.

What a sweetie!

Foster Update 6/2/08:

My sweet, easygoing Harley has been giving me a hard time and I just couldn't seem to get him well enough for heartworm treatment.  The hemolytic anemia flared up (caused by heartworms) and he was on several different antibiotics and high doses of prednisone.  Harley came to us with badly infected ears and eyes and his first foster mom got a good start on that, but it has been an ongoing battle.  Harley did fine when he was on the high doses of prednisone but as soon as I would start to wean him off, the ears would be nasty again in just a few days no matter how much I flushed them and put antibiotics in them.  I took him to the vet today and tomorrow they are going to sedate him and do a deep ear flush and start his heartworm treatment.  Everyone keep their fingers crossed for this sweet boy.
